Following advice given her by ace songwriter Lori McKenna to write from personal experience, Rachel Harrington charts new territory with her third release.

Celilo Falls [suh-LIE-low] takes its name from a stretch of waterfalls along the Columbia River that divides the states of Oregon and Washington. Since the building of the giant Dalles dam in the early ‘50’s, the once raging and bountiful Celilo Falls has been completely buried, submerged under the backwater of progress.

“A lot of this record is, for me, about what lies beneath.”

Mixing Harrington’s signature character-driven songs with ballads drawn from her own life, Celilo Falls portrays the West in both personal and mythical terms. Drawing from her roots in country and soul, the native Oregonian sings us into the gothic western landscape.

Evan Brubaker’s production provides a riparian border within which these characters and songs dwell. From barroom brawls to starlit weepers, Celilo Falls sets your clock back about 100 years. Pull up a rocking chair on the front porch and watch the west unfold.
